Belgium Waffles

The Belgium waffle is a widely consumed dessert when combined with whip cream and fresh fruit or chocolate. This dessert originated from the middle ages in Brussels. There are 2 types of waffles that originated in Belgium. Those are the Brussels waffles and Liege waffles. This dessert is was originally unleavened crisp cakes made of barley or oats. The Belgium waffles are mostly the same now as they were in 1958, when they made their fist appearance. The main difference is a lot of people(like me) use all purpose flour.

These desserts were fairly simple to make. I make waffles a lot for my kids, but if I would say what is the hardest part about making a waffle, it is folding in the egg whites to the batter to create that light airy texture. I also made homemade whip cream and chocolate ganache, then topped it with pecans.

Waffle Recipe

2 1/4 C all purpose flour

1 Tbsp baking powder

3 Tbsp sugar

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp cinnamon

2 eggs, separated

1/2 C vegetable oil

2 C milk

1 tsp vanilla extract
